$10 billion and counting: Microsoft’s big bet on ChatGPT – Times of India
According to a report by Semafor, Microsoft along with other venture firms is looking to invest $10 billion in OpenAI — the company behind ChatGPT. As per the report, the investment would raise OpenAI’s valuation to $29 billion. The report also says that the documents for the deal have been sent to prospective investors and could be announced soon.
A “complicated” deal?
The report also mentions that Microsoft is looking to get 75% of OpenAI’s profits till the company’s investment is recovered. It is also not clear whether the money OpenAI spends on Microsoft’s cloud computing business would be a part of it or not. Once Microsoft gets its investment, it wants a 49% stake in the company whereas other investors taking the other 49%. OpenAI, which is a non-profit company, will end up with 2% stake. Neither Microsoft nor OpenAI have commented publicly on if any deal is in the works or not.
