3 ways Google Pixel 7a will be different from Pixel 6a

Google Pixel 7a will feature a 90Hz display

Wojciechowski found out through his undisclosed sources that the Pixel 7a will come with a 90Hz 1080p display panel from Samsung. Interestingly, the Pixel 6a also comes with a Samsung-made 90Hz display, but Google decided to cap the refresh rate at 60Hz. It seems the Pixel 7a will have no such cap and will offer up to 90Hz refresh rate, something that is sure to please Pixel a-series fans.

Google Pixel 7a will come with upgraded cameras

The cameras on the Google Pixel 7a will be a major upgrade over the Pixel 6a. The current affordable Pixel phone offers a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 primary sensor. Wojciechowski dug into the camera drivers and found that Google made some modifications to the camera setup that was previously spotted. It was earlier reported that the Pixel 7a will feature a triple camera system that includes a Samsung GM1 primary sensor. Now, it seems the Pixel 7a will get a 64MP Sony IMX787 primary sensor and an IMX712 wide-angle lens.

There won’t be a telephoto camera on the Pixel 7a, but the cameras are still a major upgrade over the Pixel 6a’s 12MP sensor. The higher megapixel count combined with Google’s camera software should ensure significantly improved picture quality on the Pixel 7a.

Google Pixel 7a will come with wireless charging

The third major upgrade discovered by Wojciechowski is that the Pixel 7a will come with wireless charging support. None of the previous Pixel a-series phones offer wireless charging support, so this is definitely an improvement. That said, the wireless charging speed seems to be capped at 5W, which means it will be disappointingly slow to charge the phone.

These are some of the biggest upgrades the Google Pixel 7a will offer over the Pixel 6a. We expect more hardware-level improvements, but details are still limited at this point. We expect to learn more about the Pixel 7a in the coming months.
