5 iOS 16 and iPhone 14 features that Android already has
Apple – at times – is a little too cautious when it comes to adding new features to its devices and the operating system. The company has recently unwrapped its latest iPhone 14 series and the iOS 16 operating system. The latter has already started rolling out to the older iPhone models as well. As expected, the iOS 16 update brings a host of new features and improvements to the iPhones which Apple claims to be ‘revolutionary’ and ‘groundbreaking. Well, that may stand true for the Apple ecosystem, but, there are features that have already been there on its rival platform – Android.
While some features like the all-new Dynamic Island, improved privacy and security and the ability to control Apple Watch using iPhone are innovative, there are a few that Apple is claiming to be groundbreaking, but they already exist. We take a look at 5 features that Apple has recently introduced to the iPhones and iOS16 that are already present on Android devices.
Always-on display (AOD): Exists since 2016
Samsung was actually the first smartphone brand to introduce the Always-on display on smartphones with the Galaxy S7 series. Since then, the feature has existed in almost every Android smartphone including some entry and budget devices.
Apple’s take on AOD display is a little different from Android. On one hand, the Android’s AOD first completely turns off the display followed by the AOD display and it only includes the clock, notification icons and a couple of other information, Apple’s AOD actually never turns off the display it just dims the display and uses 1Hz refresh rate to reduce battery consumption. Also, it keeps on showing the lock screen wallpaper along with a couple of other information.
Lock screen widgets: Exists since 2012
Google introduced the lock screen widgets with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. However, it was removed in Android 5.0 Lolipop. Despite that, there are smartphone brands like Samsung that still offer lock screen widgets and allow users to add calendars, alarms, music, weather, recorder, etc.

But, Apple has introduced the Action mode which is basically the advanced level of image stabilisation that automatically reduces shakes, motions and vibrations from the video footage.
Android is actually a step ahead when it comes to offering video stabilisation. Samsung flagship devices come with a dedicated Super Steady mode which uses both OIS and EIS to offer smooth videos. Also, Vivo also has a gimbal-like setup with six-axis stabilisation on its Vivo X70 Pro+ and X80 Pro smartphones for advanced video stabilisation.

Samsung introduced the autofocus selfie camera with Galaxy S8 which was launched in 2017. Google, in fact, introduced the autofocus front camera with Pixel 3XL.
