7 features Apple will not roll out to Intel-powered MacBooks – Times of India

Earlier this week at its WWDC 2021 annual developer conference, Apple announced all the major features that it will be rolling out to all its products later this year.
For its MacBook lineup, the Cupertino-based tech giant introduced macOS Monterey that is set to bring in a host of new functionalities. While Apple is set to roll out macOS Monterey to all its recently launched MacBooks, however, some of the features will be limited to Apple’s Mi1 chipset powered MacBooks — MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac — which were only launched last year.
According to a report by MacRumors, the company on the macOS Monterey features page, suggests that some features will require a Mac with the M1 chip.
These are as follows:
* FaceTime’s Portrait mode, which will blur the background behind users while they are on a video call
* Live Text, which will lets users copy and paste the text
* New globe view of the Apple Maps
* Details in the Apple Maps for cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and London
* Neural text-to-speech voices in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Finnish
* Offline, on-device dictation
* On-device dictation without a time limit (previously, dictation was limited to 60 seconds)
So far the company has not given any explanation for this decision as to why these features will not be available on Intel-based Macs. It is safe to assume that Apple is going to adopt this move with future updates as well.
Rumours were rife about the launch of new MacBook Pro models for the WWDC this year, but the company made no hardware announcements this year.
A previous report by Bloomberg has also said that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro are expected to be launched in the summer, but with an improved iteration of the M1 chip. The new chip will apparently include a 10-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, with 16-core or 32-core GPU options.
