Jio Phone Next has been officially launched in India and the telecom giant has revealed its price and availability details. The handset was originally unveiled at the Reliance Annual General Meeting (AGM) back in June and was initially expected to go on sale in September but was delayed due to chip shortage. It is the first Jio Phone to come in partnership with Google and features a special software fine-tuned to work well with the hardware. The company has also revealed the complete specifications. The Jio Phone Next is aimed at millennials who are looking to own the latest technology at an affordable price. Here’s a quick round-up of things we know about the Jio Phone Next.

Launch date: Jio Phone Next will be on sale in the country from Diwali i.e. November 4th.
Price: Jio Phone Next price in India is Rs 6,499 but customers can purchase it for Rs 1,999 and pay the balance through easy EMI options. Interestingly, customers opting for EMI will get additional call and data benefits. However, there’s a Rs 501 processing fee for EMI transactions.
EMI plans: Jio is aiming to sell 50 million units in the next 6 months. For that reason, it is offering easy EMI options for customers. Buyers can pay a down payment of Rs 1,999 and the remaining balance can be paid in 18 or 24 months EMI. Jio is having four payment options: Always-on, Large Plan, XL Plan, and XXL Plan.

Availability: Jio Phone Next will be on sale in India from Diwali i.e on November 4th and will be available through Jio Mart Retail outlets. Interested customers need to register by visiting the nearest Jio Mart Digital retailer or by visiting Jio.com/Next or by sending a WhatsApp ‘Hi’ message to 70182-70182. Once they receive a confirmation message, they can visit a nearby Jio Mart retailer, process the payment, and collect the phone.
Specifications: Jio Phone Next sports a 5.45-inch HD+ with 720×1440 pixels resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass with anti-fingerprint coating. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 SoC paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB native storage that is further expandable via a microSD card up to 512GB. It packs a 3,500mAh battery but doesn’t offer any fast charging support. Connectivity options include 4G, dual-SIMs, Bluetooth 4.1, a micro-USB port, 3.5mm audio jack, and Wi-Fi. There is a 13MP primary camera on the back and a 5MP selfie snapper on the front. Sensors on board include Accelerometer and Light sensor.
PragatiOS: The Jio Phone Next will ship with Pragati OS, powered by Android. The OS has been specifically built for India in association with Google. The OS brings features like a voice assistant for hands-free control and read-aloud functionality that will allow users to have content on any screen read out to them by the device, including web pages, apps, messages, and even photos. This should enable users to consume content in a language that they can understand. There’s a Translate feature that allows users’ screens to be translated to a language of their choice.
Jio and Google suite of apps will come pre-installed and they can download any app of their choice from the Google Play Store. Jio says that it would push automatic software updates, including security patches. Pragati OS is apparently optimised to offer optimum performance while also ensuring long battery life. There’s ‘Near by’ share that lets users share photos, files, and anything with one simple click.
Camera: Jio Phone Next is equipped with a smart camera that offers various photography modes such as portrait, a night mode that is claimed to offer impressive low-light shots, and others. The camera app comes pre-loaded with custom Indian augmented reality filters that further enhance the pictures. There’s also an HDR mode to capture vivid images.
Design: The recently revealed short film has revealed the design of the Jio Phone Next from all angles. It has thick bezels above and below the screen, with the top portion accommodating the selfie snapper. It has on-screen buttons for navigation. The back is where the single camera and LED flash are present in a vertical module. The back also houses the loudspeaker grille, Jio logo, and a textured pattern finish. The volume rocker and power button are on the right spine. There is no fingerprint sensor.
Made in India: Jio Phone Next is being Made in India at factories in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, and Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu through a partnership with Neolync Solutions Private Limited. Reliance has reportedly invested Rs 20 crores in the company.
