Facebook to take on Apple Watch with a smartwatch with 2 cameras – Times of India

Facebook has been planning to venture into the hardware space for quite some time and now a report by The Verge claims that the social media giant wants to take on the Apple Watch. Facebook may reportedly launch a smartwatch next year. The USP of this Facebook smartwatch is claimed to be a detachable display with two cameras along with Facebook apps, including Instagram.
Facebook with this smartwatch wants to reduce user’s dependence on a smartphone for taking photographs. The two cameras will be positioned– one on the front and the other on the rear. The front camera will offer 1080p resolution so that you can make video calls from your wrist. The rear camera will have auto-focus support and is expected to work the way smartphone cameras operate.
Apart from camera capabilities, the Facebook watch will come with a heart rate monitor along with other regular health tracking features. The smartwatch may also include LTE connectivity support and the report claimed that Facebook is already “working with the top wireless carriers in the US.”
Facebook is said to have plans for upgraded smartwatches that may be launched later that will include pairing with Augmented Reality glasses.
As for the pricing, the report by The Verge said that Facebook may launch its smartwatch for around $400 which roughly translates to around Rs 29,200 in Indian Rupees.
Apple is a leading smartwatch manufacturer with sales of 34 million in 2020. The Cupertino-based tech giant has included a range of smart features focused primarily on health and connectivity. Apple has not revealed any plans to include a camera on its smartwatch and this is what Facebook thinks may be a game changer.
