New Beats Studio Buds win over Apple AirPods on features and price

After weeks of rumours, Beats has finally revealed their all-new Studio Buds earbuds. These wireless ‘buds, which will go on sale this summer, offer an abundance of features for an incredibly reasonable price. At just £129.99, the latest from Beats are £30 cheaper than the standard Apple AirPods and Google Pixel Buds, to name a few rivals.

Thankfully, that comparatively low cost does not means that Beats has cut back on features. Instead, the Apple-owned audio firm is boasting that its Studio Buds will “deliver a high-quality audio experience.”

That’s mainly due to the 8.2mm dual-element diaphragm driver, which should help boom sound into your ears with the usual bass we’ve come to expect from Beats. And that’s not all as, unlike the basic AirPods, the Studio Buds feature Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) which will block out all background sound around you for an uninterrupted music experience.

For those times when you need to hear some ambient audio, there’s a Transparency mode, which should mean you don’t miss your train or plane when announcements are made over the Tannoy system. With a tap, you’ll be able to block everything out again and get back to your song or podcast.

To boost things further, you’ll get Apple’s clever Spatial Audio technology which makes the sound appear to hit your ears from all directions for a far more immersive experience.

Of course, like all wireless buds, you get a neat pocket-sized charging case that boosts the battery when things run flat. Beats says that you’ll get around 8 hours of playback before they’ll need refilling with the case offering a total of 24-hours of battery life.

There’s also a nice Fast Fuel charge option with a quick 5-minutes in the case offering an hour of music. If you happen to lose them then don’t panic as Beats Studio Buds are the first Beats product to support both Find My in iOS and Find My Device on Android.

Finally, the design should mean they survive the British weather and your trips to the gym with an IPX4 water-resistant rating and, for the first time ever, convenient one-touch pairing comes to both iOS and Android users.

“In building a product this small, every minute detail was considered, analysed and selected to optimise for sound quality, comfort and durability,” said Oliver Schusser, vice president of Beats and Apple Music. “Studio Buds are our tiniest, most subtle form factor to date, yet keep Beats’ promise of delivering an immersive sound experience in a beautiful design.”

Beats Studio Buds will be available in the UK beginning this summer for £129.99 and will be available in three colours, White, Black and Red.
