Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 release date, price, features and news

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Price

As the event is ongoing, we will be giving you the official price of the Z Fold 3 once it’s announced. For now, the prices below are the ones that were leaked previously for Europe and the UK.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Release date

After the Z Fold 3’s announcement today, August 11, the foldable phone will be available for purchase and shipments will start August 27. The foldable will be available globally, with pre-orders starting immediately after the event.

This situation follows an expected scenario that we have seen with previous foldables from the series. As you can see on the table below, the phone gets an announcement with pre-orders starting right after, then, a couple of weeks later the phone hits the shelves.

As for the release date, usually it follows shortly after the phone has been showcased to the public. In previous years, here’s how things were with Samsung’s Z Fold series:

The Z Fold 3 is no shy of coming with the best specs out there, justifying its relatively high price in comparison to standard non-foldable phones. The Z Fold 3 will, as was expected, sport top-of-the-line specifications.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Design

The Z Fold 3 retains its predecessor’s form factor despite earlier rumors suggesting it may have a triple-folding mechanism. Keeping the good from its predecessor, it improves on some of the aspects of the Z Fold 2 design.

First off, we have the world’s first foldable with a water resistance rating, and this one is an important thing to mention. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 sports an IPX8 water-resistance rating, which basically means you can submerge it in water. However, the Z Fold 3 is not dust protected, so you’ll have to be careful if you decide to bring it to the beach.

Additionally, improving on its durability is the strong Gorilla Glass Victus that will now protect its back and a strong Armor Aluminum frame. With all these improvements, Samsung has actually managed to make the Z Fold 3 lighter than its predecessor at 271g (the Z Fold 2 weighs 283g).

It sports three fashionable colors to choose from – Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver, all of them showcasing its beautiful and sleek look.

The back of the phone houses a triple-camera system with the camera sensors arranged vertically in a nice compact way, with the LED flash under the sensors instead of next to them as seen on the Z Fold 2.

Turning the phone around, we are greeted by a gorgeous 7.6-inch AMOLED display and the long-anticipated under-panel selfie camera. Samsung seems to have managed to make it quite invisible, so it doesn’t obstruct the good look of that big display. More on cameras later though.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Display

Now, let’s discuss those two displays, shall we? First off, we will start with the 6.2-inch cover display. It is an HD+ Dynamic AMOLED screen sporting a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, that should be a good enough display for your occasional chat, notification glance, or a quick check of your social media. The cover display has a centered punch-hole for the 10MP selfie camera.

Unfolding the phone is what we are interested in, though. When you unfold the device, you are greeted with a beautiful 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED, Infinity Flex Display with a resolution of 2208 x 1768, and pixel density of 374ppi. Of course, complemented by that fast 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. These specs ensure a great experience with the display of the Z Fold 3.

The colors of the display should be crystal clear, the animations smooth, the pixel density of 374ppi should ensure a crisp and pleasant to view image. We’ll tell you more when we test the phone for our review, so stay tuned!

And the last but not least change to the display is the addition of Samsung’s digitizer technology for it, making it a bit thicker, in order for it to work with…

Galaxy Z Fold 3 S Pen

The rumors the Z Fold 3 will come with S Pen support are now officially confirmed, after a long and eager anticipation. The Z Fold 3 will support both the S Pen Fold Edition and the S Pen Pro that was teased back in January and, now, officially announced as well.

The Z Fold 3, however, doesn’t have a specific place in its body to house the S Pen as did the Note series, so if you want to carry the S Pen around with your new foldable, you need to purchase one of the Z Fold 3 cases with an S Pen slot.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Camera

The Z Fold 3 borrows the triple-camera system from its predecessor, sporting a main 12MP camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera. The telephoto camera ensures 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital zoom.

The main and telephoto cameras have OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) ensuring the photos will be clear and bright. The main camera also has dual-pixel autofocus.

For selfies, the Z Fold 3 offers you two choices: you can take a selfie in the folded form with the 10MP selfie camera on the cover, or you can take a selfie with the 4MP under-display camera, positioned on the main screen.

The under-display camera is a welcome improvement, providing extra viewing space to the great and big Z Fold 3 display without obstructing the view. Samsung has worked hard to ensure the UPC of the Z Fold 3 will turn out better than earlier experiences with the tech from other smartphone vendors (the ZTE Axon 20 5G was the first phone to have an under-display selfie camera, and it was a bit disappointing).

The phone is capable of recording 4K video and 8K playback.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Battery

One of the most important aspects of an experience with a phone these days is its battery. The Z Fold 3, with its big screen, multitasking capabilities, and 5G support does need a lot of battery juice, despite the Snapdragon 888’s power efficiency.

Samsung has provided a dual battery cell for the Z Fold 3 with a typical capacity of 4,400mAh. Strangely, this is a bit less than the Z Fold 2’s 4,500mAh battery, so we are left wondering what has Samsung done to ensure a good battery performance on the Z Fold 3. Once we test its battery, we’ll make sure to tell you how it fared with the competition and how well it did.

Samsung currently has generous trade-in offers for the pre-order of the Z Fold 3:
