Xiaomi dropping ‘Mi’ branding from future products – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Xiaomi launched the first ‘Mi’ branded smartphone ten years ago and now it is all set to ditch the ‘Mi’ branding. Xiaomi is reportedly dropping the ‘Mi’ branding fro, its future products. According to an online report by XDA Developers, moving forward the company will use only ‘Xiaomi’ branding for its products.
The report adds that Xiaomi made a change in the branding with the recently launched MIX 4 smartphone. A company spokesperson confirmed to XDA Developers that the company will follow the same for its upcoming products.
Apart from smartphones, Xiaomi also sells many other products in the smart home, lifestyle and computing categories. Many of these products come with Mi branding. However, as per the report, the company will change that with the new launches.
To recall, Xiaomi’s first product that came with the ‘Mi’ branding was not actually a smartphone. The company’s first product was MIUI, which is an Android-based UI skin.
Recently, a report by a market research firm revealed that Xiaomi emerged as the second biggest smartphone brand in terms of shipments during Q2 2021. The Chinese tech giant leapfrogged Apple for the first time to record this feat.
According to Canalys, Xiaomi’s shipments “increased more than 300% in Latin America, 150% Africa and 50% in Western Europe.” Xiaomi, as per the report, “is now transforming its business model from challenger to incumbent, with initiatives such as channel partner consolidation and more careful management of older stock in the open market.”
Xiaomi’s pricing model also helped the company as it remains more of a mass market brand. The average selling price when compared with Samsung and Apple, its average selling price is around 40% and 75% cheaper respectively.
