Oppo foldable smartphone ‘Peacock’ tipped to launch next month – Times of India
Oppo’s foldable smartphone has been in the works for quite some time now but the company has not officially revealed any plans about the devices as of now. As per the previous reports, the company will unveil the device this year and now a latest report by Gizmochina also hints that the smartphone may go official by the end of the year.
According to the report, a tipster on Weibo has revealed that Oppo’s foldable smartphone is codenamed “Peacock”. The report further reveals that the company is also working on another high-end device codenamed “Butterfly” and it will be launched next year.
When it comes to specifications, the report claims that the Peacock foldable smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and the Butterfly smartphone will be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset.
As per previous reports, the foldable phone will feature an inward folding design like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and the Huawei Mate X2. It is rumoured to be equipped with Samsung’s 8-inch LTPO OLED panel that offers a 120W refresh rate. In terms of camera, the device is expected to feature a Sony IMX766 50MP primary camera on the back. For selfies, it may sport a 32MP front camera. For security, the smartphone may feature a side-facing fingerprint scanner.
The foldable smartphone is also rumoured to come equipped with a 4500mAh battery, which will carry support for 65W fast charging. It is expected that the device will run on ColorOS 12, based on Android 12, out-of-the-box.
The smartphone manufacturer is also gearing up for the launch of the Oppo Reno7 series of smartphones in China. The lineup is said to include Reno7, Reno7 Pro, and Reno7 Pro+. These models are likely to feature Dimensity 920, Dimensity 1200, and Snapdragon 888 chipset, respectively.
