google: Qualcomm partners with Google, here’s what it means for users – Times of India
Qualcomm seems to have put a lot of effort into improving AI capabilities in its future chipsets with the help of Google. The company has announced its partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate neural network development and differentiation for Snapdragon mobile, ACPC, XR platform, Snapdragon Ride platform and Qualcomm Technologies IoT platforms.
The company will be utilising Google Cloud Vertex AI Neural Architecture Search (NAS) with Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine to develop new AI models.
The entire idea behind the collaboration is to bring more accuracy and optimisation to AI models faster than ever before on Snapdragon-powered devices.
The first chip to arrive with Qualcomm and Google Cloud Vertex AI NAS is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform and then it will be available across Qualcomm Technologies portfolio.
Ziad Asghar, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said “The ability to utilize Google’s NAS technology to create and optimize new AI models in a condensed timeframe is a game changer for our business”.
“We are happy to be the first chipset company to work with Google Cloud on NAS and eager to roll out this technology to further our momentum in connecting the intelligent edge”, Asghar further added.
How does this new Qualcomm-Google collaboration affect users
According to the company, the collaboration will allow Qualcomm ‘the ability to bring high accuracy AI with low latency to low-power devices such as IoT, medical imagery, automobile and mobile devices, whilst ensuring memory and energy efficiency’. Also, this will allow the company to build and optimise new AI models in weeks rather than months. This will also help with better optimisations and performance increase.
The company has also confirmed that the Google Cloud Vertex AI NAS will be integrated into future Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK for developer access.
