Last-minute iPhone SE 2022 leaks point to a meager amount of storage

TL;DR

  • A veteran Apple watcher and analyst has posted several apparent iPhone SE 2022 details.
  • The phone is said to ship with just 64GB of storage in the base model.
  • You should also expect the A15 Bionic chipset and robust 5G support.

Apple is widely expected to announce the iPhone SE 2022 on March 8, alongside a few other products. We’ve already seen plenty of leaks for the iPhone, and now a veteran Apple leaker has dished out more claims.

TF International Securities analyst and long-time Apple watcher Ming-Chi Kuo has posted a few iPhone SE 2022 predictions on Twitter (h/t: 9to5Mac). Perhaps the most interesting claim is that Apple’s new smartphone will ship with either 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of storage.

We can somewhat understand 64GB of base storage if Apple is aggressively pricing the phone, but it would still be a disappointing turn of events. After all, even mid-range Android phones like the Google Pixel 5a and Samsung Galaxy A52 now ship with 128GB of base storage. And Android phones that ship with 64GB of storage almost always offer microSD expansion as well, whereas Apple only offers fixed storage.

Otherwise, Kuo also says the iPhone SE 2022 will be equipped with the iPhone 13 family’s A15 Bionic chipset, mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G connectivity, and a similar “form factor design” as the current iPhone SE 2020. 5G tends to be a little harder on the battery, so we hope Apple doesn’t neglect endurance here. The phone will apparently be available in black, white, and red.

The analyst adds that 25 to 30 million units are expected to be shipped in 2022. For what it’s worth, Kuo previously predicted that the iPhone SE 2020 would ship 20 to 30 million units in its first year.
