These are the biggest PC companies in the world – Times of India

The last two years were really good for the PC market. With the pandemic striking hard, people were forced to work from home whereas students had to attend classes online. All these factors combined and the PC market saw a spike in growth. However, it looks like the demand for PCs has fallen down. According to a report by research firm IDC, global shipments of traditional PCs, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, declined 5.1% in the first quarter of 2022.
IDC said that while the decline is there it doesn’t mean that the industry is in a downward spiral. All brands combined to ship 80.5 million PCs during the first quarter. “The 1Q22 volume marks the seventh consecutive quarter where global shipments surpassed 80 million, a feat not seen since 2012,” the report by IDC stated.

Which are the biggest PC brands in the world?

According to IDC, the top 5 brands in the PC market remained the same as compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. Lenovo remained the top company with 22.7% market share, followed by HP, Dell, and Apple. Asus and Acer were tied for the number 5 position in 1Q22.
As per the report, Dell, Apple, and Asus were the only top-tier vendors that saw year-over-year shipment growth. Notebook PCs saw a year-over-year decline while desktops grew slightly.

In the first quarter of 2022, Apple shipped about 7.2 million Macs across the world, which gave it 8.9% of the market share. Compared to the first quarter of 2021, Apple had shipped around 6.9 million Macs, which means it has seen a 4.3% growth.
HP in the second position had 19.7% market share whereas Dell clocked 17.1% market share. Asus and Acer and 6.9% and 6.8% market share in the overall PC market.
“Even as parts of the market slow due to demand saturation and rising costs, we still see some silver linings in a market that has reached an inflection point towards a slower pace of growth,” said Jay Chou, research manager, IDC.
