Samsung Galaxy S23 rumoured to skip under-display selfie camera – Times of India
Samsung is not expected to launch its next-generation flagship smartphone — Galaxy S23 series — until next year. However, leaks and rumours about flagships has already started surfacing online. The most recent one claims that the Galaxy S23 series will continue to offer punch-hole selfie cameras instead of the under-display selfie shooter as we have seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Wccftech has reported that the supply chain sources have revealed that the upcoming Galaxy S23 series smartphones will not feature an under-display selfie camera setup. While there’s no official reason provided behind Samsung not opting for the under-display selfie camera, there can be several reasons behind it.
The most common reason that we can think of can be the image quality that the current-generation under-display selfie camera setup offers. We have already seen the implementation in some handsets including one from Samsung and as of now, the image quality isn’t as good as the regular punch hole camera setup that most smartphones offer today.
Another reason could be the pricing. Including the under-display camera setup is expected to be relatively expensive compared to the regular punch hole setup and that may push up the price of the Galaxy S23 series phones.
Going by the recent leaks and rumours about the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+, the handsets are expected to receive a 12MP selfie shooter and with the current under-display sensor, the resolution is limited to 4MP which is relatively inferior compared to even the 10MP sensor that the Galaxy S22 series come with.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything officially. But, even it Samsung finally choose not to go with an under-display selfie camera, it seems to be a logical step.
