OnePlus Nord 2T India launch: Date, price, specs, design and everything we know so far
OnePlus is tipped to launch the next generation of its Nord smartphone, titled OnePlus Nord 2T, in India on July 1st. The smartphone will be the latest in an increasingly crowded sub-Rs 30,000 price segment in India, which numerous smartphone makers are targeting today. The device has been tipped to come with an aptly suited mid-premium range spec sheet, and its price has also been tipped. With this in sight, we take a look at what this upcoming smartphone can offer in India.
OnePlus Nord 2T India launch date
OnePlus India briefly put up the Nord 2T launch poster revealing Friday, July 1st, as the India launch date, but it was pulled down soon after. We speculate the device may be unveiled tomorrow, or next week. This will be the second generation of the OnePlus Nord smartphone family, and the ‘T’ or mid-life refresh of the Nord 2.
OnePlus Nord 2T price in India (expected)
According to industry reports, the OnePlus Nord 2T will be launched exclusively on Amazon, which OnePlus has done previously as well. The smartphone maker has been tipped to price the Nord 2T at Rs 28,999 for its base, 8GB RAM variant – which is where the series’ offerings will begin at. Reports also state that the device will get an instant discount of Rs 4,000 on Amazon, which could include a flat introductory discount as well as bank offers. The device is also likely to get a 12GB RAM variant that is likely to be priced at around Rs 33,999, but may cost just under Rs 30,000 as part of its introductory pricing scheme.
Design
The OnePlus Nord 2T renders suggest a typical OnePlus design – with a smooth rear panel indented with the OnePlus logo at the centre, and a camera module to the top-left corner. The camera module carries an interesting design – with two large units placed vertically. The upper module clearly houses the main camera, while the lower unit appears to feature both the additional camera units, and a faux unit to maintain design continuity. It also appears to feature an LED flash as part of the camera module.
The device is curved gently inward on both sides, which looks like a good design for ergonomics and in-hand feel. A metal rim runs along the side edges, while to the front, the display features slim bezels, a typically fatter chin, and a front camera placed in a drill hole slot aligned to the centre. Reports have suggested that the Nord 2T could come in two colour variants – Shadow Grey and Jade Fog, which would be a mild shade of green.
Specifications
In terms of key specifications, the OnePlus Nord 2T is tipped to run on the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC, which appears to be a similar performer to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870. The latter is a popular sub-flagship chipset that has featured in numerous smartphones at around the Rs 30,000 price range – notably in the POCO F4 5G and the iQOO Neo 6 5G, of late.
Interested buyers may expect to find 8GB and 12GB RAM variants, along with 128GB or 256GB internal storage. It is unlikely that the device will offer a microSD card slot for expanding the storage further. It is also essentially certain to run on Android 12.
Other key specifications include a triple rear camera module with 50MP main unit, 8MP ultra-wide unit and a 2MP macro unit, along with an LED flash. To the front, the Nord 2T is tipped to use a 32MP selfie camera.
All of this is expected to be powered by a 4,500mAh battery with support for OPPO’s 80W SuperVOOC fast charging standard. As of now, it’s unclear if the Nord 2T will also feature reverse charging and wireless charging technologies. While connectivity options should include gigabit-class Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C, a 3.5mm audio port will likely not be a part of the device.
