Truecaller launches voice-based app Open Doors: What it is and the apps it takes on – Times of India
Truecaller has launched a new app for secure and private audio conversations called Open Doors. With this new app, Truecaller aims to take on rival apps like Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces. The company claims that the app is easy to use and it is available globally for both Android and iOS users.
Presently, the company has launched the communications app in English, Hindi, Spanish, Latin and French and it will soon expand to other languages. Truecaller has also mentioned that the conversations happening through the app are not stored anywhere and neither can someone listen in without you knowing.
“Our new app Open Doors was born out of a simple question – how can we help people make new connections without being intrusive? And this is what we want to do: to bridge the world using the most natural form of communication, our voices”, said the company in an official blog post.
How the app works
Truecaller mentions that Open Doors comes with a simple onboarding process. If you already use Truecaller then you can sign in with just one tap. However, if you’re not a Truecaller user then first your phone number will be verified using a missed call or OTP.
Also the private conversations app needs only two permissions — contacts (so that you can share Open Doors, or connect with people in your contacts who also have Open Doors) and phone permission (needed to have audio conversations). It is a completely secure app and the participants to a conversation cannot see each other’s phone numbers.
How much control the user has
As a user of Open Doors, you are in complete control at all times. You can start a conversation and leave at will. Your friends can join conversations when they get a notification or by clicking on a link you share.
Once your friend joins the conversation, their friends will be invited too. Through the network effect, you can be joined by a large number of people very soon. Do keep in mind that conversations are real-time and moderated by the community, just like Truecaller.
