China receives a launch date for the Motorola Razr 3

It is official – August is the month of foldables. Not only is Samsung set to release its Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Flip 4, but Motorola will also be launching the next iteration of its iconic Razr lineup.

In a post, Motorola confirmed that it will be holding a release event for the Motorola Razr 3, a clamshell-style foldable that is a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip. The timing could not be more perfect – the former will launch on August 2nd, while the latter – on August 10th.

Samsung’s Galaxy Flip has always managed to dominate the foldable market, consistently holding the position of best-selling foldable smartphone in most countries. The Razr has never come close in terms of sales.

However, this time around, the Razr 3 brings more than the sense of nostalgia that usually draws users to the iconic device. The Motorola Razr 3 is set to introduce major improvements with its third generation. And while we still don’t know the technical specifications of the smartphone, there is at least one thing we know with a high degree of certainty.

Namely, that the Motorola Razr 3 will be implementing improvements to the cover screen of the device. The Razr already has a larger secondary display than the one of the Flip and the gap will now widen even further. Given that the cover screen is one of the main benefits of the clamshell foldable form factor, this could give an edge to the Razr (pun intended) over the Flip.

Sammobile reports in an article that the Motorola Razr 3 will initially launch only in China and that, at least currently, there is no mention of a global release date. Hence, while Chinese users will be able to get their hands on the Razr a full week before the Flip 4 launches, the rest of the world might have to wait for the former… potentially forever
