Why YouTube does not want your Shorts on TikTok
Many creators often cross-post content on different apps. You might have seen a number of Shorts and Reels having a “TikTok” watermark with the person’s handle. This way, TikTok tells everyone that the person first uploaded the video on their platform, and YouTube wants the same.
“We’ve added a watermark to the Shorts you download so your viewers can see that the content you’re sharing across platforms can be found on YouTube Shorts,” reads the post.
Google wants the credit if you download the video you first uploaded as YouTube Shorts. So, whenever you download a Shorts from the Creator Studio, it will have a watermark.
The watermark for Shorts will begin to appear in the coming few weeks on the desktop first. YouTube says it will soon be expanded to mobile in the next few months.
Having a watermark on a video on some other platform will surely help YouTube promote Shorts without increasing its marketing budget. But, in a way, YouTube is discouraging creators from resharing content on TikTok, Reels and other platforms.
Even Instagram is not very happy with people cross-posting Reels to other platforms except Facebook. As per multiple reports, the edited Reels on iPhone do not include audio. To get footage with audio, creators first need to post the video on Reels and then download it.
