Our Favorite Mattresses Are on Sale for Labor Day

The best way to celebrate a holiday dedicated to workers is by spending the entire day resting. For me, that’s a day of bundling up in bed with snacks and cats, watching TV. If your mattress doesn’t inspire cozy dreams, it might be time to invest in a new one. Holidays are the best time to do this, as nearly all of our favorite mattresses are discounted. Read our Best Mattresses guide first if you aren’t sure what kind of bed you’re looking for.

Hybrid vs. All-Foam

We’ve tested fantastic memory foam mattresses, but we prefer hybrids, which combine individually wrapped springs and several layers of memory foam. They tend to have better support and disperse heat evenly. Memory foam mattresses are typically made of several layers of foam in a variety of densities. It’s best to spend a little—cheap mattresses can feel unsupportive, like the Zinus mattresses a few of us have owned. (The money saved ends up being a waste in the long run when you need to buy a new bed shortly after.)

Absolute Best Mattress Deals

All the prices below are for queen-size mattresses, and most of the sales are the same prices we see during every major deals holiday.

Helix Midnight Luxe

Enter code LDW250 at checkout to see the discount, and you’ll also get two free pillows. If money isn’t a concern, this is the best mattress we’ve ever tried and we think it appeals to sleepers of all sorts—side, stomach, and back. It’s medium-firm with a plush cushion top and cooling gel foam. The springs are firmer in areas that need more support, like where your lower back rests. If you’re getting another size, click the “view offer” button on the top of Helix’s site to determine the right code for your total.

Enter code LABORDAY20 at checkout to see the discount. The Allswell Supreme is as comfortable as some $2,000 mattresses, for less than half that cost. It really just lacked edge support, but a pregnant partner of a WIRED reviewer said this was the only bed she wanted to sleep on during her third trimester. It was soft yet supported her side-sleeping.

Enter code LABORDAY20 at checkout to see the discount. Like the Allswell Supreme, this bed feels significantly better than the price suggests. You’ll rarely see a hybrid for this price. If you don’t want to spend the $800 for the Supreme, this one should be just fine with its medium-firm feel and tubing for edge support. If you can spend a little more, go with the Luxe Hybrid version for $559 ($140 off).

More Hybrid Mattress Deals

Casper Hybrid Mattress

Casper is a solid choice if you aren’t sure which one to get. We prefer the company’s hybrid because it’s more breathable than the all-foam one, and it’s a good balance between soft and supportive. Do you prefer all-foam? Casper’s Standard Foam Mattress is also discounted to $1,165 ($130 off).

You’ll get two pillows with this deal. Leesa’s hybrid is one of the best mattresses on the market, but we saw it drop to $1,499 during the Memorial Day sale, so it might be worth waiting to see whether it drops to that price again. Like the Casper mattress above, Leesa’s Original Foam Mattress is also on sale for $1,099 ($200 off). We think Leesa’s foam mattress is a bit comfier than Casper’s.

Enter code LABORDAY25 at checkout to see the discount. You’ll love this mattress if you prefer sleeping on a firm mattress. The firmest option was so firm that we’d opt for medium next time instead.

DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid

We saw this dip to $1,495 on Memorial Day, but the base price has risen since then. Saatva’s hybrid mattress has three firmness levels and two thickness options. You also get white glove delivery, and the brand will haul away your old mattress. If you’ve ever tried to move a heavy old bed down the stairs to a dumpster, you know that’s a luxury.

This deal comes with two pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress cover. DreamCloud’s Hybrid has a thick, luxurious pillow top that’s similar to the Helix Midnight Luxe and Allswell Supreme.

WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu has been testing this bed for the last few months and has few complaints as a stomach and back sleeper. His side-sleeping partner wishes the top were a bit plushier, but it barely jiggles if one person goes to bed later than the other, which is always nice. The Tencel cover adds a pillowy softness to the very top, but still feels relatively firm. These mattresses are handmade to order in the US.

Foam Mattress Deals

Layla Two-Sided Foam Mattress

This deal comes with two pillows. Want a foam mattress but not sure whether you need a firm or soft bed? Layla’s foam mattress has one medium-firm side and one medium-soft side, so you hopefully don’t have to worry about returning something of this size. We also love Layla’s weighted blanket, which is currently discounted to $89 ($110 off).

This deal includes two pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress protector, which is helpful if you’re upgrading from a smaller-sized bed. We think the Nectar Mattress feels like sleeping on classic memory foam. It’s conforming but doesn’t suck you in.

The Mint Mattress is $169 less than it was during Memorial Day. Despite its adaptive foam top layer that lets you sink in a bit, it’s a supportive and pressure-relieving mattress. It has a layer of ceramic gel foam to help disperse heat, too.

Photograph: Purple

Purple has a similar reputation as Casper in the foam mattress world, and for good reason. These beds feel soft and supportive thanks to their waffley, Jell-O-like grid. It’s not as comfortable as a hybrid, but it’s still a nice mattress.

Enter code STAYCOMFY to see the discount at checkout. This isn’t one of our top mattresses, but WIRED reviewer Matt Jancer liked sleeping on it for a few months. The top layer is made from recycled materials.

Sustainable Mattress Deals

Birch Natural Mattress

Enter code LABORDAY at checkout to see the discount. This is our favorite organic mattress, but we’re disappointed to see the base price was raised about two months ago, which makes this deal price $270 more than Memorial Day’s price. Still, it’s comfortable for people who prefer firm beds and those who like soft beds. It’s made from organic latex, organic wool, and organic cotton. It is also nontoxic, containing no polyurethane, fire retardants, memory foam, or chemical adhesives.

Enter code LDS400 at checkout to see the discount, and you’ll also get two free pillows. Birch is made by Helix, the company that makes our top favorite mattress, but this hybrid is made with natural latex and wool and is free of polyurethane-based foams and chemicals. It’s great for side sleepers.

Enter code USAMADE at checkout on our favorite option for kids. It’s a hybrid made with certified organic cotton, wool, and latex. If you can spend a little more, the company also has a two-sided version to extend its life.
