Despite a massive price cut, DON’T buy Apple’s AirPods Pro this week

Been thinking of buying a new pair of AirPods? If you head online you’ll be able to find some seriously good bargains with stores including Very and Amazon slashing the price of these mini music makers. In fact, you can currently pop a pair in your ears for under £190 which is a considerable saving off the standard £239 asking price.

For that money, you’ll get wireless earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation ANC, changeable tips for an improved fit and around four hours of music playback before they’ll need a refill from their charging case.

If you own an Apple device, the AirPods Pro are some of the best wireless earbuds you can buy especially as they connect seamlessly between iPhones, iPads and even the Apple Watch.

However, before you rush to tap the buy button beware.

Apple is about to unleash its all-new AirPods Pro 2 which get a number of improvements including better ANC which blocks out even more background audio. That means you should be able to sit in a busy cafe and only hear the sound of your playlists and nothing else.

If audio is important to you then there’s more good news with boasting that its new AirPods offer improved audio performance, thanks to a new low-distortion audio driver and custom amplifier tucked inside each ‘bud. Some clever software has also been introduced that’s constantly altering and tweaking the sound to make sure things constantly sound pitch perfect.

One final sound boost comes to Apple’s Spatial Audio feature.

This technology – which places sounds within the physical space around the listener – giving the impression of being sat in the middle of a surround sound system, has been upgraded with the AirPods Pro.

Apple will now personalise the performance of Spatial Audio based on your personal attributes with users simply taking a photo of their ears and the AirPods Pro doing the rest.

Away from the sound experience, there are some other neat additions including a new chip tucked inside which is more efficient and means a single charge now brings six hours of playback.

One final upgrade that could definitely be worth waiting for is a U1 ultrawide band chipset, so those with a U1-enabled iPhone (that’s anything from the iPhone 11 onwards) will be able to track down their misplaced AirPods Pro with an arrow pointing you in the right direction and a countdown of the total distance still left to travel.

If that doesn’t do the trick, Apple has added a small speaker into the case, so it can play a sound when lost. Like the first-generation AirPods Pro, released back in October 2019, each earbud can play a sound when lost too – helping you locate a misplaced ‘bud.

The new AirPods Pro are out this Friday and cost £249.
