WhatsApp rolls out Communities feature, here’s what it means for users – Times of India
Earlier in April this year, WhatsApp had revealed that it is working on Communities feature. Now, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the global rollout of Communities feature. WhatsApp says that Communities is a “major update to how people will be able to connect on WhatsApp in the groups that matter to them.”Communities like neighbourhoods, parents at a school, and workplaces can now connect multiple groups together under one umbrella to organise group conversations on WhatsApp.
Do keep in mind that WhatsApp Communities will be different from WhatsApp Groups. And WhatsApp Groups will continue to exist on the instant messaging app.
Meta said that it has been working with over 50 organisations in 15 countries to build Communities to meet their needs. Communities will also contain powerful new tools for admins, including announcement messages that are sent to everyone and control over which groups can be included, said WhatsApp.
“Today we’re launching Communities on WhatsApp. It makes groups better by enabling sub-groups, multiple threads, announcement channels, and more,” said Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO, Meta.
WhatsApp also said that with Communities, it is aiming to raise the bar for how organisations communicate with a level of privacy and security not found anywhere else. In other words, all conversations in Communities will be end-to-end encrypted. “Communities are inherently private, which is why we will continue to protect messages with end-to-end encryption, noted WhatsApp.
