T20 World Cup: When Zomato reminded Careem Pakistan of ‘Cheat Day’

Post the match, which India won, Zomato replied quoting the same tweet, “Diwali ki hardik shubhkamnaye mithayi lenge ya aansuo se pet bhar liya?”

Rubbing it further, “dear pakistan, ordered a defeat? virat your service,” said Zomato in another tweet. To this Careem replied, “We don’t have cheat days.”

How and why of ‘cheat’ day
During the T20 World Cup opener between India and Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground, India registered a dramatic four-wicket win. India chased down a 160-run target in exactly 20 overs, with Virat Kohli slamming an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls. In the final over India required 16 runs. When 13 runs were required off three balls, Kohli smashed a six off Mohammad Nawaz over deep mid-wicket on a waist-high full toss, which was called a no ball and deemed a questionable free hit given by the umpires. Some Pakistani fans claimed that the free hit was not justified.

In the Pakistan-Bangladesh match yesterday (November 5) at Adelaide Oval. Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was out on duck. Shakib was apparently dismissed via LBW on the first ball he faced by a decision that many termed controversial. The dismissal caused a lot of reaction and some fans termed it ‘cheating’ on Twitter. After Pakistan’s victory against Bangladesh, Zomato quoted Careem’s October 23 ‘Cheat Day’ tweet and gave a single word reply.

Incidentally, the T20 World Cup is not the first time that Zomato and Careem Pakistan have been in a tongue-in-cheek exchange on Twitter. After India’s loss to Pakistan in the Asia Cup in September, Careem Pakistan had taken a dig at India with a meme and tagged Zomato. The meme had a scene from Bollywood film Hera Pheri. To this, Zomato had replied, “meme template tou apne use karo.”
