launch date, price, design and more
The MG Air EV will likely be one of the most affordable EVs in India. Currently, the Tiago EV all-electric hatchback is the cheapest mainstream electric car in India, with prices ranging from Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The MG Air EV is expected to start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete with the Tata Tiago EV and Tigor EV.
MG Air EV specs, range and features
The electric car is already available in Indonesia by the same name but sold under the Wuling brand as it is a part of the SAIC Group, which allows sharing of models between sister brands. The automaker is expected to make changes to the car’s design before launching it in India. The Indonesian MG Air EV is a compact car that is less than three metres long and has several modern design elements, including an LED strip spanning the width of the front end, vertically stacked dual-barrel headlights, 12-inch steel wheels with stylised covers, and LED bar at the rear.
The MG Air EV will be available with two battery sizes – 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh. The larger battery has a claimed range of 300km, while the smaller pack has a claimed range of 200km. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear-view camera, and rear parking sensors are likely to ensure passenger safety.
The Indonesian version of MG Air EV has dual 10.25-inch screens (one each for instrumentation and infotainment), electronic parking brake, steering-mounted controls and connected car technology, and it is expected that all of these features to be on offer on the India-spec model too.
