Elon Musk meets Twitter’s software developers, reportedly planning more job cuts

Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover went through a tumultuous start as the company owning the micro-blogging site witnessed multiple policies and personnel changes in the last few weeks. After acquiring the company, the Tesla CEO laid off almost half of Twitter’s workforce. Later, he asked the remaining employees to increase productivity by putting in longer hours at work and dismissed the company’s permanent work-from-home policy. Musk’s new ‘productivity’ policies created chaos on Twitter as thousands of employees opted for voluntary resignation and the company had to keep its offices closed for the weekend. During the weekend, Twitter’s new owner met with the company’s software engineers and is reportedly planning to cut more jobs in the sales division.

Recently, Elon Musk issued an urgent call to meet Twitter’s software developers, a day after the mass resignation wave swept through the company. Musk sent an email to the employees building software for Twitter and requested them to visit the company’s San Francisco office in person.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Musk also mentioned that staff who won’t be able to be physically present in the office or may have any emergencies will be excused for not attending the call.
In this meeting, Musk asked the developers to offer bullet-point explanations of the coding accomplishments they have achieved during the last six months. The company’s new owner also asked the software developers to share up to 10 screenshots of the most important lines of code running on Twitter. Musk explained that this meeting will help him to get a better understanding of the company’s tech situation.
Elon Musk planning more job cuts at Twitter
Rumours suggest that at least 1,200 employees resigned from Twitter last week to prevent themselves from adhering to their new boss’ “productivity increasing” policies. As per another Bloomberg report, Musk is now planning to cut more jobs at the company starting today. These new layoffs are expected for the sales and partnership teams. However, the billionaire is yet to officially announce the new wave of job cuts.

The report also claims that Musk asked the existing team leads of all departments to unanimously lay off more employees. Robin Wheeler and Maggie Suniewick, who were leading the marketing sales and partnership team respectively, reportedly refused to do as asked which finally led them to lose their jobs.
