Samsung may become the largest OLED display supplier for iPhone 14 – Times of India
Samsung may be Apple’s biggest iPhone display supplier
As per the report, Apple has requested more than 120 million OLED panels for the iPhone 14 lineup from various suppliers. Other than Samsung, the other companies that will be supplying OLED displays for iPhone 14 models include — LG Display and BOE.
The report notes that out of the total ordered displays, Samsung is likely to supply Apple with 80 million OLED panels. Meanwhile, LG and BOE are expected to deliver 20 million and six million units, respectively.
Apart from this, Samsung also has another advantage over other Apple display suppliers as it supplies panels for every model in the iPhone 14 lineup. Whereas, LG provides LTPS displays for the iPhone 14 and LTPO panels for the iPhone 14 Pro Max while BOE only provides LTPS displays for the vanilla iPhone 14.
The report also mentions that out of the 80 million units that will be shipped by Samsung, at least 60 million will be for the high-end Pro models of the iPhone 14 series.
LG has also been struggling with production issues which can also be one of the main reasons for Samsung to become Apple’s primary supplier of OLED displays, the report adds.
Apple may release more iPhones with OLED displays
Apple released the iPhone 14 lineup a couple of months back and the company has reportedly started developing the next generation of its smartphones. The iPhone 15 series devices are also expected to use OLED displays.
Recent rumours also suggest that the company is planning to unveil a new iPhone SE in 2024 which may boast a 6.1-inch OLED display and sport a new design. Moreover, Apple is also expected to introduce new iPad models with OLED displays in 2024.
