One thing that has been pestering YouTubers and their audiences for a while is the spam within comments. A number of creators, both big and small, have been vocal about the issue of comment spam on the platform. YouTube seems to have listened to complaints and says that it is working on improving the comments experience for everyone.
YouTube works to reduce spam comments
YouTube says it has been improving its automated detection systems and machine learning models to identify and remove spam, adding that with the “improved spam detection on comments,” it removed over 1.1 billion spam comments in the first half of 2022, and the algorithm keeps on improving its understanding of newer tactics to reduce spam on the platform further.
Fewer bots in live chats
YouTube’s live stream has been plagued with bots, and the company knows how negative of an impact these bots can have on the live streaming experience, so it is said to improve the spambot detection to keep live chat bots free. So, soon you should notice fewer bots or spam messages in the live stream, as YouTube plans to make the live streaming experience better for everyone.
YouTube will block abusers from commenting
To tackle abusive comments, YouTube is introducing a new feature – “Comment removal warnings” – that will warn users leaving abusive comments and remove their comments if found to be violating the platform’s community guidelines.
Users that continue to leave abusive comments even after warnings will be banned from commenting for up to 24 hours. YouTube calls this “timeout,” and the company that it has found these practices to reduce the chances of users violating the guidelines again.
The warnings, for now, will be available for comments in the English language, but YouTube hopes to expand this practice to more languages in the next few months.
