Explained: Google Play Store purchase requests and how it works
Play Store already let users set up a family payment method where family managers get a common payment form for all members using different Android devices. Users can share the family payment method with their children and can control purchases made by the kids (by approving or declining the purchases kids make). Moreover, users accessing the family payment method can also see all transactions together in their Google Play order history.
What is Google Play Store purchase request
The company has now introduced a new Play Store Purchase Requests feature that will change the way these transactions will work for families. Play Store already enables parents to approve or decline purchases made by kids in a family. The new Purchase Request feature is now coming without a family payment method.
Google Play Store purchase request: How will it work
With Play Store purchase requests, children in a family will be able to send a purchase request directly to the family manager even if the family payment method is not set up. Family managers can evaluate the request as key information about the app or in-app purchases will be sent to their devices. After going through this information, users can decide if the purchase should be complete or not.
Users can access their stored payment methods including Google Play gift cards to complete these purchases. Family managers will receive notifications for these purchase requests in real time. However, users can also choose to decide upon the request later which will remain listed in an approval request queue. Just like the family payment method, purchases made using the Purchase Requests feature will also be available in the Order History.
