Apple may replace Samsung to make BOE the primary supplier of iPhone 15’s displays, here’s how – Times of India
How BOE may beat Samsung for iPhone display orders
As per Kuo, BOE has already overtaken Samsung to secure most display orders for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models which are expected to arrive by the second half of 2023. With a market share of around 70% BOE will become the largest display supplier for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus if development and production continue “smoothly over the next few months”. In comparison, Samsung will only have a 30% market share.
Kuo also adds that BOE is likely to start mass shipments of LTPO displays for high-end iPhones by 2024. However, Samsung and LG Display will also continue to supply displays for Apple’s iPhones. The analyst claims that if BOE can procure orders for 20–30% of the high-end iPhone LTPO displays in the second half of 2024 while maintaining a market share of around 70% of low-end iPhone displays, the Chinese display maker will likely become the largest supplier of displays for the new iPhones that will release in 2024.
BOE’s earlier attempts to beat Samsung
Earlier, BOE made an unsuccessful attempt to become a more prominent player in Apple’s supply chain. However, the company failed to overcome the product validation tests and lost its opportunity.
Samsung supplied Apple displays for several iPhones including the latest iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. The company has maintained its position as Apple’s largest display supplier for some time now. Moreover, the Pro models in the latest iPhone series also demanded more advanced manufacturing due to its pill-shaped display cutout.
