Here’s when Samsung’s US semiconductor plant’s construction will be complete – Times of India

“The construction in Taylor is on track. The fab will be finished within this year and start producing the best products next year,” said Kyung, co-CEO at Samsung who is in charge of the tech giant’s chip business, in an Instagram post.
Samsung’s $17 billion investment
In November 2021, Samsung announced that it would build a $17 billion advanced chip facility in the city to “help boost production of advanced logic semiconductor solutions that power next-generation innovations and technologies”.
It considered factors, such as “the local semiconductor ecosystem, infrastructure stability, local government support and community development opportunities as well as proximity to Samsung’s current manufacturing site in Austin”, before choosing the construction site.
TSMC also building semiconductor plant
Apart from Samsung, Taiwanese giant TSMC also announced last year that the company will build 3-nanometre (3nm) advanced chips at its Arizona factory. TSMC supplies chips to Apple and other companies.
“Three-nanometer, TSMC right now has a plan, but it has not been completely finalised. It has almost been finalised—in the same Arizona site, phase two. Five-nanometer is phase one, 3-nanometer is phase two,” said founder Morris Chang during a press conference in Taipei as per news agency Reuters.
US President Joe Biden and the Taiwan-based firm’s boss opened the factory in Arizona. Its Arizona plants will produce 3-nm and 4-nm chips used for iPhone processors. As per Mark Liu, TSMC’s chairman, the firm would build two semiconductor fabrication plants with the first one expected to be online by 2024.
TSMC to triple investment in US plant
As per a report by BBC, TSMC will more than triple its investment in a giant US plant to $40bn (£33bn) becoming one of the largest foreign investments in American history.
In November 2020, the Taiwanese giant was given a go-ahead by the US to build a $12 billion chip plant in Phoenix, Arizona. TSMC’s Fab 18, located in Tainan City in Taiwan, is the main 3nm production facility.

Taiwan Chips Act
As per a report by Bloomberg, Taiwan has passed the Chips Act that will let local chip firms turn 25% of their annual research and development expenses into tax credits.
“As the United States, Japan, South Korea and the European Union are all offering massive incentives to build domestic supply chains, Taiwan should bolster the global competitiveness of its key industries. The new rules will help encourage Taiwanese companies to keep their roots here,” Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said in a statement on Saturday.
