Apple expanding Advanced Data Protection for all users worldwide – Times of India

With iOS 16.2, Apple introduced Advanced Data Protection for iCloud. Initially only available in the United States, Advanced Data Protection will now be made available to users worldwide with the upcoming iOS 16.3 update.
Advanced Data Protection for iCloud comes to iPhone with the iOS 16.3 update currently in developer beta. However, the stable release is expected later next week. Once updated to iOS 16.3, the security feature will be available to everyone.
Advanced Data Protection brings end-to-end encryption to iCloud
iCloud’s Advanced Data Protection enables end-to-end encryption for different categories, including Photos, Messages, Notes, Voice Memos, Messages and device backups. Previously, only passwords, payment information and health data were only to be end-to-end encrypted.
iMessage Contact Key Verification and Security Keys for Apple ID also releasing globally
Other security features arriving to all users worldwide are iMessage Contact Key verification and Security Keys for Apple ID. The iMessage Contact Key verification helps users verify that they are texting the right person. And with the Security Keys for Apple ID, users can add a physical security key to their Apple ID.
When introduced in the US, Advanced Data Protection required users to have their iPhones updated to iOS 16.2. So, we expect that outside the US, users will be mandated to have iOS 16.3 running on their iPhones.
Advanced Data Protection for iCloud is also available on iPads and Macs. The security feature arrived on iPads and Macs with iPadOS 16.2 and macOS 13.2. So, the feature should be rolled out globally on iPads and Macs with the upcoming updates, i.e., iPadOS 16.3 and macOS 13.3.
Apple has recently released candidates for iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3 and macOS 13.3. The stable versions of all three are expected to be released next week.
