EA’s Battlefield Mobile cancelled before exiting public beta
While the beta was only available for Android users on Play Store, the full release was being marketed for both Android and iOS communities on the official website.
Battlefield Mobile gets the axe within months of beta release
Battlefield Mobile had rolled out its open beta programme as recently as November 8, 2022. In other words, the game has been shut down less than three months after beta release. This play test was limited to a small group of countries, namely The Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. More countries were scheduled to join this list as the beta progressed.
Regarding the decision to stop work on Battlefield Mobile, EA’s statement read, “As the industry has evolved and our strategy to create a deeply connected Battlefield ecosystem has taken shape, we decided to pivot from the current direction to best deliver on our vision for the franchise and to meet the expectations of our players.”
Battlefield Mobile isn’t the only victim, is joined by popular mobile shooter
In addition to Battlefield Mobile, EA has also binned popular mobile game Apex Legends Mobile and scheduled its termination for May 1, 2023. Incidentally, these cancellations come at the same time as EA’s earnings call for Q3 FY23, where the company reported a 1% year-over-year drop in the amount of products and services sold during the period.
EA is committed towards the franchise, future projects in pre-production
Despite the ban, the gaming giant assured the fans of their interest in expanding the franchise and “unlocking Battlefield’s enormous potential.” The company further added, “We’re hard at work at evolving Battlefield 2042, and are in pre-production on our future Battlefield experiences at our studios across the globe.”
