A cheaper Chromecast for Google TV model could be around the corner

TL;DR
- A cheaper Chromecast for Google TV could be launching in the coming weeks.
- WinFuture reports that the device will retail for around €40.
- This would be cheaper than the current model’s European price of €70.
The Chromecast for Google TV is one of the cheapest Android TV devices out there, offering a $50 price tag and a small form factor. However, rumors earlier this year pointed to an even cheaper product coming, topping out at 1080p output instead of 4K HDR like the current model.
Now, WinFuture has reported that this cheaper Chromecast for Google TV is arriving at some retailers, citing retail sources. This suggests that a launch is imminent, presumably alongside the Pixel Watch and Pixel 7 series on October 6.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a cheaper Chromecast for Google TV. Protocol reported on the existence of this device back in January, saying it would indeed top out at 1080p and would retail for $29.99-$39.99. The publication also asserted that the device would offer AV1 codec support, allowing for the same streaming video quality at reduced bandwidth or higher quality for the same bandwidth.
We also hope to see a dedicated microSD card slot on the device, as it would be a more accessible approach to storage expansion than the current solution (using a USB-C hub).
