Twitter has been having a rough patch in its India public policy. Despite an Indian-origin Vijaya Gadde leading its policy team, Twitter hasn’t been away from policy problems in India. Parag Agrawal’s appointment is being seen by policy evangelists as a strategic move by Twitter. Will the ‘Made in India’ Twitter leadership end its policy woes in India?
Things were simmering for quite a while. The two parties, Twitter India and the Centre, weren’t happy with each other. And we don’t know whether it’s all sorted now. The last two years have put many issues out in the open. Twitter was uneasy about following India’s new IT rules. Its public-policy head quit in February 2021 over ‘personal reasons’.
