Airtel 5G Plus service is now live. The company has started offering its 5G services in 8 cities with plans to expand it to key metro cities by the end of the year and the pan India rollout is planned by the end of 2023.
Using 5G services requires two things — 5G-enabled smartphones and a location where 5G is currently available. And, to make things easier for users, Airtel has updated its Thanks app on both Android and iOS with a feature that lets them check whether their phone supports 5G and whether the location has 5G services.

5G plan and SIM requirement
According to Airtel’s FAQ page, users can use 5G services on their existing plan until the wider rollout. Also, the company has confirmed that “No SIM change needed; existing 4G SIM is 5G enabled”.
How to check 5G eligibility for your phone and location
As mentioned, Airtel has updated its Thanks app which allows users to check 5G compatibility with their smartphone and location. Follow our step-by-step guide:
Update your Airtel Thanks app with the latest version
Open the app and scroll down
Look for the ‘World’s most popular 5G technology in now live in India’ banner and tap on Check If your phone is 5G enabled button
Once you tap on the button, the app will tell you whether your location has 5G services and whether your phone supports 5G or not.

Apart from offering information about 5G service and 5G compatibility for handset, it also let users know if they require to update their phone software to enable 5G on their handset.
