All the confirmed Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones and brands so far

Qualcomm announced its 2022 flagship processor this week, dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. And there are some interesting upgrades here, such as ArmV9 CPU cores, the usual improved GPU, and some welcome camera features.

Needless to say, loads of Android brands have confirmed that they’ll be offering the chipset. But who’s signed up for the SoC and which phones will have it? We’ve got you covered with our rundown of confirmed Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones and manufacturers.

Black Shark

The Xiaomi-affiliated gaming phone manufacturer has confirmed that it will indeed be using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for its new Black Shark gaming phones. The firm also has a video on Qualcomm’s website where it discloses this information, but we don’t get any word on a rough launch window or the name of the phone.

Nevertheless, frequent leaker Digital Chat Station has previously claimed that the new chipset will land inside the Black Shark 5 series. This name seems like a no-brainer as the Black Shark 4S and 4S Pro were the last phones released by the company. If the new phones are anything like their predecessors, then we can expect physical shoulder triggers, fast charging, and a 144Hz+ screen.

Honor

The former Huawei brand struck out on its own and produced its first Snapdragon flagship phones this year in the Honor Magic 3 series. It will stick with that strategy next year as it announced in a video that the “next-generation Honor flagship” will be using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in 2022 as well.

Honor didn’t give out any other details regarding this new flagship. Nevertheless, we’d expect the Magic 4 range to get this chipset. However, Honor has previously offered flagship-level chips in its number series and View range as well (albeit Kirin SoCs).

The Lenovo-owned company took to Weibo to say that it will indeed offer the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in a smartphone very soon. More specifically, the upcoming Moto Edge X30, which will launch on December 9, will offer the SoC.

Presumably, this is the Chinese launch event rather than a wider reveal, so you might have to wait until the new year for global availability.

Nubia

Nubia is another brand that’s confirmed it’ll be using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in 2022. It said in a video on Qualcomm’s website that it’ll offer a phone with the chipset “as soon as possible” and that it will be available soon.

So which phone should we expect? The company specifically used the Red Magic gaming phones and the Nubia Z series as examples of its partnership with Qualcomm. So we’re guessing these are the series that will adopt the new processor. In fact, the unannounced Red Magic 7 was spotted in a certification listing recently along with 165W charging support.

Oppo

The BBK-owned company has also thrown its hat into the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 arena, saying it will be one of the first manufacturers to offer phones with the new processor. It was also one of the few companies to dish out a rough release window, saying its first phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (presumably the Find X4 Pro) will be hitting the market in Q1 2022.

Oppo also referenced OnePlus’s merger with the company in a video posted on Qualcomm’s website. So it probably goes without saying that the OnePlus 10 series will offer the new processor as well.

Realme

Realme has offered flagship devices before, such as the Realme X50 Pro and Realme GT, but these were generally affordable flagships rather than premium-tier devices like the Galaxy Ultra range and OnePlus Pro series.

Now, Realme has announced that its first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 device, dubbed the Realme GT 2 Pro, will also be the “most premium” model in Realme’s history. Newly leaked specs point to a QHD+ 120Hz OLED screen and a capable triple camera system (50MP main, 50MP ultra-wide, 8MP telephoto).

Sharp

Japanese manufacturer Sharp has offered Aquos R series flagships for several years now, and it’s a real shame that 2021’s Aquos R6 didn’t come to global markets. Sharp has announced plans to adopt the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 as well but didn’t dish out any details bar a 2022 time frame. Presumably, this is for the Aquos R7.

The Sharp Aquos R6 offered some standout features like a one-inch camera sensor, 240Hz OLED screen, 5,000mAh battery, and 3.5mm port. So we’re guessing that a follow-up would have a lot in common with the current device.

Vivo

The final BBK-owned brand on the list, Vivo, has adopted Snapdragon flagship SoCs since 2013. It’s no surprise to hear that it’s confirmed the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 then.

But the firm did, however, say that it will soon launch “several smartphones” that are powered by the new processor. We’re guessing that the Vivo X series, Nex family, and/or Iqoo range will have Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 models.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi has used high-end Snapdragon silicon pretty much since the beginning, so it’s really no surprise to hear that it’s committed to adopting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 as well.

However, the company has claimed that it will be the first to launch a phone with the new chipset, namely the Xiaomi 12 series. Rumors point to a December 12 launch date, which would actually mean the Moto Edge X30 could edge it out by a few days. Then again, it’s possible Xiaomi will announce its flagships sooner.

In any event, Redmi GM Lu Weibing has also essentially confirmed that Redmi will offer Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 products as well. We’re guessing the first phones will fall under the Redmi K50 series banner.

ZTE

The final confirmed company on the list is ZTE, and a company representative pointed to the Axon 30 Ultra being powered by flagship Qualcomm silicon in 2021. So you have to assume that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will arrive in another Axon series device.

Who else?

Major mobile chipmakers typically ask their device partners if they can be publicly mentioned, and it’s not uncommon for some partners to say no. It, therefore, stands to reason that there are other companies producing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones that haven’t been mentioned.

Asus, Samsung, and Sony are three notable names missing from this list. Samsung and Sony have generally shied away from agreeing to be named in the last couple of years, but it’s almost guaranteed that we’ll see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the Galaxy S22 series and Xperia flagships. And we’re definitely expecting new Zenfones and ROG Phones next year.

Another company not on the list is Huawei, but we’re expecting its 2022 flagships (if it launches any) to offer a 4G version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. After all, this was the case for the Huawei P50 series, which was available with a Snapdragon 888 4G chipset.

Google is another company missing from the list, but that’s because it’s expected to use its in-house Tensor processor for flagships as it did with the Pixel 6 series.
