Amazon customer’s choice awards: The results might surprise you! | 91mobiles.com

For the first time in India, Amazon has conducted its customer’s choice award and asked millions of shoppers to vote for their favourite gadgets. From smartphones to smart TVs to TWS earbuds, Amazon users were asked to choose their favourite products for several different categories, and the results are finally here. Seeing how Amazon is the biggest online retailer in India, it won’t be too far-fetched to say that its customer’s choice award is the closest we can get to get a finger on the pulse of technology enthusiasts of this country. So, without further ado, let’s check the results, shall we?

Amazon customer’s choice smartphone awards

Let’s start our conversation with the favourite tech gadget category for most Indian users – smartphones. From smartphone of the year to best budget smartphone to best camera smartphone, Amazon shoppers were asked to judge their favourite smartphones in eleven different categories, and here are the results:

The smartphone of the year

The smartphone of the year

Probably the most coveted award for any smartphone, the smartphone of the year award went to a well-deserving smartphone. While iPhone 13 might not be the most innovative smartphone, it sure is one of the most feature-packed and powerful smartphones in the market. You get a phone with exquisite attention to detail, a lightning-fast chipset, long battery life, exceptional cameras, and a feature set that is hard to beat.

When you are talking about the customers’ choice award, the budget also becomes a massive factor, and with a price under Rs 40,000, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G checked a lot of the right boxes. With its flagship Snapdragon 865 chipset, 5G modem, incredible 120Hz Super AMOLED display, and top-notch cameras, this phone had many things going for it. And that’s why it was the runner-up for the same.

Most loved smartphone brand

Most loved smartphone brand Apple

The most loved smartphone brand award is something that many people were waiting for, and it’s finally time. Well, this was no surprise at all. Whether you love or hate Apple, you cannot deny that the company always has some of the best user satisfaction ratings in the industry and the Amazon customer’s choice awards further bolster that claim.

While Apple won this award, OnePlus also proved itself as one of the most beloved smartphone brands in India. The company started as a flagship killer and turned into a flagship brand. And while this transition might have irked some of its first hardcover fans, it remains a loved brand in India and has won the runner-up place in the most love smartphone brand award.

Best Budget Smartphone

Best Budget Smartphone

It was a very close battle between the top two phones for this award, and the winner barely managed to edge out our runner-up. With only 2 percent more votes, the Redmi 10 Prime is our best budget smartphone of the year. Powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, the smartphone packs a big 6,000mAh battery and a beautiful 6.5-inch display. It also boasts of a 50MP quad-camera setup that can capture beautiful photos and videos. The runner up of this category is Samsung Galaxy M21 (2021 edition) which has a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 48MP triple camera setup, and a 6000mAH battery. Both these phones are good, and the award could have gone either way.

Best mid-range smartphone

Best mid-range smartphone OnePlus Nord 2

Probably the most heated competition between brands happens in the mid-range smartphone category, so it was cool to see which phone won this award. In some ways, winning this award matters even more than winning the best smartphone of the year award. And with its powerful MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI chipset, 90Hz HDR10+ AMOLED display, and 50MP triple-camera system, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G won the best mid-range smartphone award.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro Max is one of the best selling phones of 2021, and it’s no surprise that it came as a runner-up in the best mid-range smartphone category. Powered by the Snapdragon 732G chipset, the phone packed beautiful displays and good cameras and was one of the best value for money smartphones of 2021.

Best premium smartphone

The iPhone 13 mini won the best premium smartphone of the year award by snatching almost 50 percent of all the votes. With its edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR display, powerful A15 Bionic chipset, and industry-leading cameras, it has a lot going for it. It is the only compact flagship device in a sea of super-sized smartphones, which makes it stand apart from the crowd. The runner-up position for this award has a close fight and Samsung Galaxy S20FE 5G only just managed to edge past OnePlus 9R 5G to bag the runner up title of Best Premium Smartphone.

Best ultra-premium smartphone

Best ultra-premium smartphone - iPhone 13 Pro

Three phones were pitted against each other in the race for the best ultra-premium smartphone award, including the iPhone 13 Pro, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and the OnePlus 9 Pro 5G. With 88 percent of the votes in its favour, the iPhone 13 Pro took the crown this year with 70 percent of the votes, while the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra was the runner-up. Honestly, it could have gone either way, as both phones were exceptionally good this year.

Best camera smartphone

Similar to the best ultra-premium smartphone award, the same three phones competed in the best camera smartphone of the year, and even the results were the same. The iPhone 13 Pro, with its 12MP pro triple camera setup, won this award, and it deserves it. While Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra‘s camera is no slouch – and it was the runner up in this competition – the iPhone 13 Pro certainly has the better overall camera system with exceptional performance in both photo and video departments.

It works equally well as a point-and-shoot camera and a pro camera for people who want more control. With features like Photography Styles, which allows users to change the colour profile of the photos, Cinematic mode, which automatically adjusts the focus of the video, and more, the iPhone 13 Pro’s camera edges out the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra’s camera.

Best battery smartphone (winner: Samsung Galaxy M32 5G)

Best battery smartphone

Samsung completely dominated this award category with all three top spots claimed by its smartphones. With its 5000mAh battery and power-efficient MediaTek Dimensity 720 chipset, the Samsung Galaxy M32 5G won the best battery smartphone award. Coming up at its heels, as the runner up, is the Samsung Galaxy M21 (2021 edition) with an even bigger 6,000mAh battery.

The best design award

You may not judge a book by its cover, but buyers judge a smartphone by its looks. After all, if if you are going to use something for hours every day, it makes sense to buy something that looks pretty and feels good in the hand. Also, whether we like it or not, smartphones are a status symbol in our society, and a good looking smartphone is always more desirable than a not so good looking one.

All that said, design is a very subjective thing, and it’s not something that you can quantify, and we saw the same in the voting. With 30 percent of the votes, the OnePlus 9 Pro is our runner up while the iPhone 13 is the winner of the best design award. With its industrial design and usage of premium materials, the iPhone 13 had enough things going for it to beat the competition.

Best gaming smartphone

Best gaming smartphone - iQOO Legend 7

The best gaming smartphone award has a very close battle, and the winning phone won only by a margin of 2 percent. iPhone 13 grabbed the runner-up spot thanks to its powerful A15 Bionic chipset that pushes enough raw power to play AAA titles without breaking a sweat. Helping it win is also its Super Retina XDR display which makes everything pop on the screen. The winner of the best gaming smartphone award is the iQOO 7 Legend. It packs the flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset and 120Hz AMOLED Display with a touch sampling rate of 300HZ and 1300 peak brightness. Despite costing below Rs 40,000, the iQOO 7 Legend delivered an uncompromised gaming experience, and we think that’s why it won the award beating every other smartphone.

Best Alexa built-in smartphone

Amazon introduced a special award category to recognise the brilliant capabilities that Alexa adds to Alexa built-in smartphones. Alexa makes it easy to control your smartphone and smart home devices just with your voice, and the Alexa built-in smartphone let you access Amazon’s smart assistant instantly. OnePlus took both the winner and runner-up spot for this award. The runner up for the best Alexa built-in smartphone is OnePlus Nord CE 5G, and the winner of the best Alexa built-in smartphone award is the OnePlus 9.

Best truly wireless earbuds

Best truly wireless earbuds airpods pro

Earbuds are must-have accessories for any smartphone user, and wireless earphones have become a phenomenon onto themselves. Deservedly winning the winner award for this segment is the Apple AirPods Pro. With its lightweight design, long battery life, and industry-leading noise cancellation feature, the Apple AirPods Pro is one of the best, if not the best, TWS earbuds on the market. The popular OnePlus Buds Pro took the runner-up spot thanks to high definition audio support, Warp Charge support, and smart adaptive noise cancellation features.
