Amazon Shipping launched: What it is and other details – Times of India

Amazon is set to take on the likes of Delhivery, Xpressbees, Ecom Express as well as Flipkart‘s Ekart. The e-commerce giant has quietly started to offer its transportation and logistics network as a service to third-party merchants, businesses and direct-to-consumer brands in India. Called Amazon Shipping, it will also offer transportation of non-Amazon orders to various online businesses.
“Amazon Shipping service offers extensive reach and the highest reliability – all at the lowest total logistics cost. We will pick up your parcels 7 days a week, and deliver them to your customers,” is how the website describes it.
The benefits that Amazon Shipping service claims to offer are: Competitive rates; no extra fees for weekends; delivery you can trust; no contractual obligation; and dedicated shipper support.

The website says: We deliver parcels from your own website and other e-commerce channels. This makes it clear that Amazon Shipping is open to third-party vendors as well. Amazon has partnered with local companies Shiprocket, Unicommerce, Easyecom, Clickpost and Vinculum for order and delivery management systems, as per the website.
Amazon Shipping covers all types of products other than dangerous and hazardous goods. On a policy page, Amazon says Shipping currently offers the ground mode of deliveries and restricts the number of shipments items to 99 per order. Weight is restricted to 18 Kg per piece and maximum size of 70cmX70cmX45cm.

Amazon is reportedly covering over 14,000 PIN codes in India and using its ‘high service levels’ will lead to on-time performance eventually reducing ‘overall logistic cost and improved customer experience.’
Globally, Amazon has launched the service in the UK while it has tested the same quietly in its home market — the US. The Walmart-backed rival Flipkart too began to open its logistics network to third-party companies earlier this year.
