AMD announces Ryzen 7020 and Athlon 7020 series, aimed to power entry-level laptops – Times of India
AMD has announced its Ryzen 7000 and Athlon 7000 series processors. The new lineup includes Ryzen 7020 series and Athlon 7020 series mobile processors. The new “Mendocino” processors, according to the company, are designed for “everyday laptops and are aimed at low-end entry-level devices. The chipset is likely to rival Intel’s Core i3 processors.
The AMD Ryzen 7020 series includes Ryzen 5 7520U, and Ryzen 3 7320U processors, while the Athlon 7020 series includes the Athlon Gold 7220U processor. In terms of features, the Ryzen and Athlon processors are based on a 6nm process, come with 4 cores and 8 threads and have a max clock speed of 4.3GHz, 6MB total cache. Apart from that, they come with Radeon 610M graphics and support LPDDR5 memory and have 8-15W TDP.
According to the company, the Radeon 610M graphics is based on RDNA 2 technology and according to the company, it can run entry-level titles at 720p resolution at 60FPS.
The new AMD Ryzen 7020 series and Athlon 7020 series are also claimed to deliver better battery life and are rated to deliver up to 12 hours of battery life.
While, on paper, AMD claims that the new processors will deliver better performance compared to the Intel Core i3 processors. The company claims that the new processors offer around 31% faster office productivity, 58% better multi-tasking and around 80% faster file compression compared to the 11th-generation Intel Core i3 processors.
Laptops based on the new 7020 series chipsets will start surfacing starting Q4,2022. Along with this, the company has also confirmed the upcoming 7030, 7040 and 7045 series for 2023.
