An all-out war has broken out between China’s social-media titan Tencent and challenger ByteDance

Synopsis

In February, ByteDance sued Tencent alleging that Tencent had violated antitrust laws by blocking access to content from Douyin on WeChat and its QQ instant-messaging app. ByteDance sought 90 million yuan in compensation. Tencent said ByteDance’s accusation was “malicious framing” and pledged to countersue. The companies have sued each other hundreds of times over copyrights, infringement, and unfair competition.
