TL;DR

  • Google is reportedly confident that the Pixel 7 series will receive the most orders at launch than any other Pixel.
  • Sources say Google has requested eight million units of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
  • Sources claim the company wants to roughly double its sales for 2023 compared to 2022.

Off of the success of the Pixel 6 lineup and the Pixel 7 set to launch on October 13, Google is reportedly preparing for what it thinks will be its largest-ever launch order to date for one of its phones.

According to Nikkei Asia, sources have told the outlet that Google has requested eight million units of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in anticipation of customer demand. The tech giant has told a variety of suppliers that it wants to roughly double the number of sales it received for the Pixel 6 series in 2022 the sources say.

The confidence Google is displaying appears not to be limited to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro either. According to Nikkei Asia, the Mountain View-based organization is also preparing for the launch of a budget Pixel phone scheduled for early next year, requesting up to 4 million units.

In a briefing in April, Alphabet and Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, described the Pixel 6 series as the fastest-selling Pixel ever. Boasting 130% growth in shipments in the second half of 2021 and the first half of 2022 after launching the Pixel 6, it’s no surprise that Google is hopeful that the Pixel 7 series will sell even better than the Pixel 6 line.

Something that could also be fueling this confidence is the fact that Google is planning on opening up to a few new markets that it ignored for the Pixel 6 series. This includes Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands. The Pixel 7 will also be coming to India, which will be the first Pixel flagship to officially come to the country since the Pixel 3.
