TL;DR

  • The Android 13 Easter egg is live in the latest beta.
  • It incorporates Emoji as its main motif.
  • It’s not clear if there will be a secondary part to the Easter egg.

Every year, Google tucks a little hidden fun into the latest Android release. Commonly known as an Easter egg, it’s always exciting to see what interesting gift Google has created for us.

With the Android 13 beta 3.3 launch today, we finally have our first look at the Android 13 Easter egg. This year, Google is leaning heavily on Emoji. The Easter egg itself revolves around the cute Unicode characters in various ways.

If you are on the latest Android 13 beta 3.3, you can see the Easter egg for yourself. Simply go to Settings > About phone and then tap on your Android version number repeatedly until you see the clock.

Once you see the clock, move the minute and hour hands to 1:00 — or 13:00 for military folks and pretty much everyone outside of the US. Once you do that, you’ll see a bunch of bubbles that match the color scheme of your wallpaper. Tap and hold on to one of the circles and watch them all change into various Emoji.

Android 13 Easter egg: Is this it?

Although this Easter egg is a lot of fun, it does seem a bit thin by Google’s standards. Usually, there’s a secondary aspect that kicks in after you do the initial Easter egg. So far, though, we haven’t found a secondary part to this one.

For example, with the Android 12 Easter egg, the secondary aspect involved a cute widget that allowed you to have fun with the color picker. You can read all about it (and try it out for yourself) using our guide.

It’s possible we’ll see the secondary aspect of the Android 13 Easter egg in a future release. It’s also possible this is it and there won’t be any more fun stuff. Stay tuned, as the stable launch of Android 13 is expected to land in August.
