android: Android TV 12 gets official release, no word on when it will come to Chromecast with Google TV – Times of India
Android TV 12 has been finally released, a while after its smartphone counterpart was announced. Yet, there is no official information about its arrival on consumer devices. 9to5Google reports that the stable version of Android TV 12 is now available only on Google’s ADT-3 developer device as it comes in a beta version. Although Google has introduced the beta version quite early, the Android TV 12 final stable version launch can be expected to be released later. The stable version of the Android TV 11 was introduced in September 2021.
Google has introduced several new features for TVs with the Android TV 12 update. Some of these features include overdue support for 4K rendering of the UI and homescreen, Android TV 12’s new privacy toggles and indicators, support for HDMI CEC 2.0 and more.
Google explains, “We have added further customisations in Android 12 to improve the experience and compatibility on TV devices. Some of the highlights coming with Android 12 for TV are media playback improvements, more refined user interface capabilities, and privacy and security enhancements. In addition, we are introducing better standards support and improvements for HDMI and tuners.”
Google is releasing the Android TV 12 to ADT-3 through an OTA update which can be also downloaded manually. There is no clear information available about this update’s arrival for Google’s own Chromecast dongle. This dongle is still running on Android TV OS 10 and hasn’t got any update in the last few months. The company has not addressed when this dongle will be getting the Android 12 update.
