android: Android users may get this old Apple iOS feature – Times of India

Last month, Google started to roll out the first developed preview build of the upcoming Android 13 operating system. The build has given hints about the new features and improvement that we can expect from the OS. Till now developers have revealed details about the new privacy features, icons, language controls and more. The operating system will also bring in features from Pixel smartphones such as Quick Tap gestures. Now as per a latest report, the upcoming OS will also get a feature that has been part of Apple iPhones for quite some time.
According to a blog by Esper’s Mishaal Rahman, Android 13 will get a feature that will allow users to adjust the brightness of the smartphone’s flashlight. As per the blog, the OS introduces two new APIs, getTorchStrengthLevel and turnOnTorchWithStrengthLevel, to the CameraManager class. He further explains that getTorchStrengthLevel API returns the currency brightness level of the flash on the phone. The turnOnTorchWithStrengthLevel gives the option to set the brightness level of the flash. The range begins from 1 and the maximum strength depends on the hardware of the smartphone.
As of now, Android smartphones only get a toggle to turn on or turn off the flashlight. The option to adjust the brightness of the flashlight is only offered in custom Android skins from a few OEMs. It is worth noting that although the feature mentioned will be offered as a default Android feature, few smartphones may still not be able to use it due to hardware limitations.
According to a previous report by Android Police, Google is also working on the ability to launch QR code scans via the lock screen with Android 13 operating system. As per the ‘trusted source’, it could add a quick toggle button in the notification shade for the same. This means that users will be able to scan a QR code easily without having to unlock their device first.
