Android Auto now supports WhatsApp calling using Samsung, Pixel phones – Times of India

Major tech event Consumer Electronics Show (CES) of 2023 is now live and will run through January 8 in Las Vegas. The event showcases the latest tech products and innovations. Among the many tech giants participating at CES 2023, Google has also made some announcements for Android Auto. The company has now made the redesigned version of Android Auto available to all users, which was recently rolled out. In addition to this, Google disclosed a few partnerships and exclusive features.
WhatsApp calling via Android Auto
Google’s announcement also revealed that Android Auto can now be used to directly place WhatsApp calls for users of the latest Pixel and Samsung smartphones. At the moment, users can only make traditional voice calls through Android Auto. However, following the recent update, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) apps will soon enable them to do so as well. The company is expected to add the same functionality to other communication apps if the feature proves to be successful. Eventually, Android Auto will also support WhatsApp calling on older Galaxy and Pixel phones, as well as devices manufactured by other Android OEMs.

Android Auto redesign
In line with the company’s Material You redesign, Android Auto has now been updated. It now appears much cleaner and more in line with other apps with the changes made to the layout and placement of the buttons. At the Google I/O keynote, Google unveiled the Android Auto Coolwalk update for the first time.
As for the redesign’s standout features, the Coolwalk update gives Android Auto a visual makeover. Now there will be two windows on the screen, displaying two different types of information. For instance, maps and navigation are displayed on the left side of the screen, while music, calls, and other items are shown on the right.
Google discontinued Android Auto for phone screens, so if your car has an Android Auto-compatible infotainment system, you would be able to use an optimised version of Android.
