Android is CRASHING with no explanation and phone owners are rightly furious
Android smartphones across the globe are repeatedly crashing without explanation. The infuriating glitch has impacted people with Google Pixel, Samsung, and Motorola handsets, although it’s possible that other brands have also been affected by the baffling new bug. When the glitch happens, some smartphones display a notification simply stating: “Google keep stopping”. Given that doesn’t really offer much in the way of an explanation about the odd behaviour, which makes the phone borderline unusable, users are pretty angry.
The issue appears to be linked to the Google app, which offers a one-tap shortcut to the latest headlines and forecasts, Google searches, and more. However, a range of Google-designed apps preinstalled with the Android operating system are also impacted by the issues. For example, some Android fans have also complained about crashes with the Google Podcasts app. Some have lost access to the chatty Google Assistant too, which lets users set timers, check traffic conditions, answer general knowledge questions, and control smart home appliances with a voice command. Android Auto, which brings your smartphone to the infotainment system in your car, is also out of action too.
Despite the wide variety of apps impacted by the “Google keeps stopping bug”, everything seems to be linked to a single glitch.
The problem seems to be related to an upgrade pushed out by Google last night. Following an update to version 12.23.16.23 of the Google app, Android users have seen the application crash every few minutes – even when users aren’t trying to launch the software. Although the other apps that are suffering from the baffling crash bug, like Google Podcasts, didn’t receive an update last night, they all tap into features inside the Google app.
If you’re reliant on your Android phone for work, driving with turn-by-turn directions, or just want to listen to a podcast on the way to work this morning, the latest glitch is pretty frustrating. Unsurprisingly, social media has been flooded with users who are pretty miffed about the situation.
Some Android users have suggested that rebooting their handset has solved the problem. That said, a seemingly equal number of people have complained that rebooting their handset does nothing for the infuriating bug.
It’s been a rough few months for Android users. Back in March, another system-wide glitch caused widespread crashes for all Android users. Worse still, Google couldn’t solve the problem for users with an automatic update, Android device owners had to install the updates themselves. The issue that time around was linked to the Android System webview tool, which is used by handsets to render websites within their apps, so it’s not related to the latest glitch.
