android: OnePlus 8 series gets stable Android 12 update in the form of Paranoid Android Sapphire Alpha – Times of India

Android 12 was finally released in its stable form on October 4 and the source code of the same was uploaded to AOSP on that particular day. The Paranoid Android team revealed that it started working on a version available through custom ROMs on a number of devices soon after the release. The team has now started releasing the first alpha versions of the Paranoid Android Sapphire for a few devices.
What is Paranoid Android Sapphire?
This is the latest custom ROM developed by the Paranoid Android team. OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 pro are two devices that are compatible with Paranoid Android Sapphire OS. Other devices that will be soon compatible with this custom ROM are — OnePlus 5T / 7T, OnePlus 9R / 9R Pro, OnePlus 8T, Poco M2 Pro, Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Poco F3 / X3. The team has provided a full list of eligible devices on Twitter.
What is the Paranoid Android team?
Paranoid Android was started by Paul Henschel. Oneplus hired a few key members of the Paranoid Android team to develop its new OxygenOS in 2015. The team adopted a mineral naming scheme with Android 11 — Paranoid Android Quartz — and they continue with the name Sapphire for 2021 release.
What is AOSP?
Android is basically an open source OS for mobile devices. The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository stores the information and source code required to develop custom versions of the Android OS, to port devices and accessories to the Android platform and to make sure that the devices meet the eligibility criteria to keep the Android ecosystem a stable and healthy environment for millions of global users
The Paranoid Android Sapphire alpha version is now available for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. This custom ROM is based on Android 12 and includes almost all the latest features that Google revealed in its latest OS upgrade. Moreover, the custom ROM also comes with Hampus Olsson wallpapers, some UI upgrades for better user experience and other developments.
If you download the Paranoid Android Sapphire OS for the OnePlus 8/8 Pro, you might face some unexpected problems as it is an alpha release. If you are okay with it, ensure that your phone is running an Android 11-based OxygenOS version (preferably stable) before installing the ROM. Some of the known issues that are worth mentioning are with 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi Direct. It doesn’t even support custom kernels and work only with kernels that specify Paranoid Android support.
For installing this ROM, get the newest fastboot zip on your smartphone and reboot to the bootloader. Then flash the fastboot zip with “fastboot update aospa-*-image.zip”. After that, reboot to recovery and wipe user data.
There are different Android 12-based custom ROMs available online for trying on other popular devices like — OnePlus flagship phones starting from the OnePlus 5, Samsung Galaxy S10 series, multiple Redmi phones and devices from other brands.
