Android users in India spent 4.9 hours daily on their smartphones in 2022 – Times of India
India ranks eighth in the list of countries with highest average hours
As per the ‘State of Mobile 2023’ report by data.ai (formerly AppAnnie), India is the eighth country with the highest average hours spent on mobile per day per user. It falls behind Indonesia (5.7 hours), Brazil (5.3 hours), Saudi Arabia (5.3 hours), Singapore (5.3 hours), South Korea (5.0 hours), Mexico (4.9 hours) and Australia (4.9 hours). Meanwhile, the global time spent per user on smartphones was 5 hours.
Total time spent on smartphones in 2022
When it comes to the total time spent on smartphones, Indian users clocked a total of 0.75 trillion hours while China recorded 1.1 trillion hours. Furthermore, the total number of annual app downloads in India reached a new high of nearly 29 billion in 2022, falling behind leader China, which saw annual downloads exceed 111 billion. The US grabbed the third spot with more than 12 billion downloads.
Note that the total number includes app downloads from iOS, Android and third-party stores in China.
Consumer spending takes a hit
Even though the downloads and time spent on smartphones saw an increase, global consumer spending on app stores fell by 2% to $167 billion in 2022, the report said. This is attributed to the rising cost of living, which seemed to have forced consumers to prioritise their spending.
However, spending on social media, utility, productivity, and finance apps remained strong in most markets, including India. Indians spent $31 million on social media apps, $7.2 million on utility and productivity apps and $5.1 million on entertainment and streaming apps.
