Google Play Store has recently made the redesigned web version of the app widely available. Apart from the wider release of the redesigned version of the app store, Google has also added a new Compatibility section for app listings on Android. This section named “Compatibility for your active devices” is now available at the bottom of the “About this app” section of the app listing in Google Play Store on Android devices. The section has not been rolled out for everyone as the Compatibility section is still not visible for some handsets. According to a report by 9to5Google, the app Compatibility section is available on devices running version 30.6.16-21 of the Google Play Store.

Users will only be able to see devices that are linked to their Google Account and have been active in the last 30 days. This section is available at the bottom of the “About this app” section of the app listing.
Google Play Store app Compatibility section importance
Google has explained that the “Compatibility for your active devices” section in Play Store app listings on Android will show whether an app works on a particular device. The report suggests that the new addition is intended to be more straightforward and user-friendly, however, this new section seems to have overlapped with the App Info section.
This change reflects how Google Play is currently not just a store for phones and tablets. As both the wearable app development and Android Automotive adoption continues to grow, updates like this one make the smartphone app store an ideal, centralised place to manage everything.

The section will include some important information like — compatibility (works on your device), version of the app, download size of the app and the required OS (for example, Android 6.0 and up). The required OS section first appeared in April under App info and the section was previously named “Android OS.”
