Apple adds this iPad model in obsolete product category – Times of India

Apple has officially added the iPad Mini in the obsolete product category. In December last year, Macrumours reported that Apple may soon add the iPad Mini model in the list of obsolete products. The addition of Apple iPad Mini in the list marks its official end.
What are obsolete Apple products?
Apple explains that “Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago.” In other words, you don’t get any updates and in addition to that Apple will not repair or service them at all. In fact, even service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. So any product that has been launched around 2013 or 2014 is likely to be — or will get sooner than later — on the obsolete products.

The company has marked both the WiFi and cellular models of the third generation iPad mini as obsolete. This also means that the iPad mini model will no longer be eligible for repairs as the service providers will not be able to order parts for the device.
For the uninitiated, Apple launched the iPad mini model in 2014 along with the second-generation iPad Air. The third-generation iPad mini is powered by Apple’s own A7 chipset and it comes with Touch ID embedded in the home button.
Apple planning to increase the cost of battery replacement
Meanwhile, Apple is planning to increase the cost of battery replacement by $20 (Rs 2,000). The company does not include iPhone batteries in its warranty, but the AppleCare+ members can get the iPhone batteries replaced at no additional cost.
On its support page, the company has mentioned that from March 1, users will have to pay more for battery replacement of all out of warranty iPhone 13 and older models.
