Apple has many devices now in its Mac lineup. From the MacBook Pro to the iMac, Apple has been targeting a variety of users looking for a new computing machine. However, it looks like Apple may add another Mac device in 2022. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has plans to reintroduce the iMac Pro in 2022.
In his weekly newsletter, Gurman said that the iMac Pro could make a comeback with processors that might similar to M1 Pro and M1 Max, which are found in the 2021 MacBook Pros. Currently, Apple has a 24-inch iMac which was redesigned in 2021. “My expectation is that we’ll get a new model this year that is bigger than the current 24-inch design and branded as an iMac Pro,” Gurman noted in his newsletter. He also said that he expects the “new iMac Pro to have a similar design to the current M1 iMac.”
Apple does have a 27-inch iMac in its line up but it is powered by Intel processors. Notably, it’s not the ‘Pro’ variant of iMac which Apple hasn’t refreshed in a few years. So it could be possible that the iMac Pro could come in a bigger size and powered by Apple’s own silicon chips.
The Mac devices have been doing quite well for Apple. During its recent earnings call, Apple reported that the Mac has been hitting record revenues for the last six quarters now. Apple recorded revenue of $10.9 billion in the previous quarter and said that it was driven by strong demand for the newly redesigned MacBook Pro powered by M1. Apple also said that the vast majority of its Mac sales are from M1 powered devices, which also helped drive a record number of upgraders during the December quarter.
